Sadewa was born in Kediri – East Java, in 1980. He graduated from Muhammadiyah University, Malang in 2006 and learned photography informally in Insomnium, a photography community in Malang – East Java.
During his Cemeti residency in Yogyakarta, Sadewa is developing three art projects. His first project is phenakistoscope. A disc with a picture-series is spinning in front of a mirror and the still pictures are moving in a simple cartoon-like motion. In his second project, Sadewa experiments with the technique of photography. He designed a tripod with an instrument to spin the camera and observe the effects on the captured images. While in his third project he works on his desire to explore theme and discourse. For the last project, Sadewa focused on a traditional dancer who plays the character of Rahwana in Ramayana Ballet at Prambanan. He tries to document the self transformation of the subject from the personal area to the public area, from daily life to stage life. The symbol, landscape, and direction of his camera demonstrate a certain perception and questions how we define tradition, how we face tension and connections and how the whole performance is represented.

Gerard Holthuis was born in Venlo – The Netherlands, in 1952. He studied film-making in Free Academy, Den Haag.
In his films, Gerard Holthuis shows a unique character in composition. It is a blend of images commonly found in documentary films and video art. Most of his short movies depict landscapes, cities and loneliness. The moving images in his films form a group of questions on the subjects that he is working on. Gerard Holthuis not only plays with themes which tends to be simple but broad, but also experiments with techniques; sounds, shooting, and on the equipment he uses. In his project during the residency, he is working on two films. One is about artists’ life from a non-documentary point of view and the other is a feature film “Hei Joe!” that offers a reinterpretation of the word “waiting.”
